I purchased a Server license and some Cals for SQL Server 2005 x64
Standard ed.
I was directed to download the product from our MVLS site, since
resellers can no longer send media.

So I have three files downloaded. Now what? There is no readme, etc,
and no instructions on the site about what to do. Everything i've
found on technet assumes that you have the dvd.

Microsoft wants $250 to let me talk to someone about how to install it
- that doesn't seem right.

I ran one of the (several) setup.exe files among the expanded files,
and it installed a few components. Then i ran another from the second
file, and it returned a file conflict error.

I liked it a lot better when you just put in the DVD...
any help with what to do with these three files greatly appreciated..

Don't those folders have any labels on them which declares their
architecture (such as x64, x64ITA or x86?)

Aren't they ISO files? If so, you should see readme stuff when you open the
ISO via a Virtual Drive software.

Also, I don't recommend you to run any executable you find because later you
will probably experience conflict problems when you were running SQL Server
2005 Setup.

Ekrem -thanks very much for your reply.
The files are not ISO, and the folder names are not helpful (e.g.,
"1080", "Setup" , etc.)
I think the third file contains hotfixes, but i don't know what to do
with the other two - use just one? which one?
Here are the file names as they appear before downloading:
SW CD SQL Svr Standard Edtn 2005 64Bit X64 English #1 x64 MLF
(X11-57664) 389 MB EXE

SW CD SQL Svr Standard Edtn 2005 64Bit X64 English #2 x64 MLF
(X11-57665) 524 MB EXE

SW CD NTRL SQL Svr 2005SP2 64Bit X64 English #1 (X13-36347) 338 MB EXE

I searched on the part numbers(X11-57664 and X11-57665) but no luck.
Thanks again

I just can make a guess because I have not met these zip files yet. Here's
my guess\suggestion:

1. Step: Create a folder named "SQL Server" and create two folders under it
which should be named "Servers" and "Tools".

2. Step: Extract "SW CD SQL Svr Standard Edtn 2005 64Bit X64 English #1 x64
MLF (X11-57664) 389 MB EXE" to the "Servers" folder.

3. Step: Extract "SW CD SQL Svr Standard Edtn 2005 64Bit X64 English #2 x64
MLF (X11-57665) 524 MB EXE" to the "Tools" folder.

4. Step: Go to "Servers" folder and run "Setup.exe".

5. Tell me it works =)

Regarding to the "SW CD NTRL SQL Svr 2005SP2 64Bit X64 English #1
(X13-36347) 338 MB EXE" It seems that this is Service Pack2 of SQL Server
2005 and you should apply this one after installing SQL Server 2005.

Thanks again Ekrem -- that's the same as what i've tried so far .
I guess i'll just have to pay the $250 to get the installation
instructions.

Thanks again for all your time.

It's sad to hear that way didn't work.

Actually I'd love to know what error messages you get on the SQL Server
Setup screen and the error messages related to this error in the SQL Setup
Logs and in the Windows Event Logs. So we might have more insight about the
source of the problem.

Of course it's your decision to call MS or track the problem yourself.
